Overview for clinics
How an organization is structured, the staff roles, and the consent boundary.
An organization is the business entity on VitaBoard. A solo examination office and a large multi-location healthcare centre use the same model — only what's inside it changes.
Structure
Organization
├── Locations physical places, each with its own address & timezone
├── Departments Cardiology, Radiology, Laboratory… (larger orgs)
├── Staff Doctors, Secretaries, Nurses, Administrators
├── Services with price, duration, payment requirement
├── Schedules recurring availability + exceptions
└── Appointments
The person who creates the organization becomes its Owner.
Staff roles
A person's role is a property of their membership in this organization, not of their account — the same person can be a Doctor here, a Secretary elsewhere, and a patient in their own right. Default roles: Owner, Administrator, Doctor, Secretary, Nurse, each with a fixed permission set for now.
The consent boundary
This is the rule to internalise: a staff member's business permissions are not a way around patient consent.
- A Secretary with "read patients" sees contact and scheduling information — not clinical history.
- Clinical content (notes, results, diagnoses) still requires the treating doctor's own access grant from the patient.
The two systems compose; neither substitutes for the other. See Staff and roles.
