Prescriptions

Issue, amend, and cancel prescriptions with per-drug instructions.

The Prescriptions tab on a patient's record is where you issue and manage prescriptions. There's no pharmacy integration in this version — a prescription is a document you produce and that becomes part of the patient's record.

Issuing a prescription

  1. Add one or more drugs from the canonical drug catalogue (search by name; add one if it's missing).
  2. For each drug, fill in the structured instructions — dose, route, frequency, duration, and free-text notes.
  3. Review the summary and issue.

On issue:

  • A PDF is generated and available from the prescription.
  • The patient gets an in-app notification.
  • By default each item is also added to the patient's medication list as a linked entry, so their current medications stay accurate. You can turn this off per prescription.

Amending

A prescription is never edited in place. Amending creates a new version that supersedes the previous one, keeping the full chain for the record. When you amend, "add to medication list" defaults to off — the original entries are usually still the right ones.

Cancelling

Cancelling marks the prescription cancelled without removing it from the record.

What the patient sees

The patient has their own Medications area: a "Current" list (their active medication entries) and a "Prescriptions" list they can search and filter by status, opening any prescription to view its detail and PDF — read-only.
